Stratify Breaks New Ground in eDiscovery

Stratify Legal Discovery™ 5.0 Service is First to Feature Visual Email Analytics to Enable Litigators to Quickly Identify Critical Relationships and Message Flows

NEW YORK — LegalTech. — January 31, 2005— Stratify, Inc., a leader in advanced electronic discovery for the legal market, today announced the release of the Stratify Legal Discovery™ 5.0 service, the next generation electronic discovery service that enables law firms and corporate legal departments to automatically organize a litigation document set to more quickly evaluate risk and develop legal strategies. The Stratify Legal Discovery service helps litigators understand critical information quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively. Attorneys can use Stratify to reduce the document universe by up to 70 percent or more, review paper and electronic documents intelligently organized into relevant concept folders and visually analyze large email collections to quickly identify critical relationships and message flows.

"In the wake of corporate scandals that have shaken both confidence and conduct, companies are being held to higher standards of corporate governance, responsiveness and personal responsibility. In today's business world of email and electronic documents, legislation is mandating accountability, investors are demanding that companies limit their liability and management must effectively handle complex litigation matters," said Ramana Venkata, president and CEO, Stratify. "Digital data is now the primary source of corporate information, and in the wake of many recent scandals that have revealed 'smoking gun' emails, quick, accurate and insightful electronic discovery can make the difference between company survival and demise, or even individual acquittal or imprisonment."

The paper trail is a thing of the past. Approximately 90 percent of business messaging is conducted by email, instant messaging and voice mail. With virtually all documents (word processing documents, email messages, presentations and PDFs) created electronically, most cases today involve the discovery of electronic documents. As a result, attorneys are increasingly responsible for managing the review and analysis of these potentially enormous document sets while limiting discovery costs.

The Stratify Legal Discovery 5.0 service responds to this challenge by offering an unprecedented arsenal of easy-to-use electronic discovery capabilities that attorneys can use for complex litigation and governmental investigations. The result is the most complete discovery solution available, which organizes all discoverable documents in as little as 24 hours — a task that traditionally could take weeks or months to complete; and delivers a full range of features to increase productivity, expedite case assessment and save time and money. Feature highlights include:

  • Stratify Visual Email Analytics:™ Attorneys can now easily conduct sophisticated analysis of large, complex email collections and easily generate visual email maps. These capabilities enable litigators to quickly and visually identify important relationships and relevant message flows, and refine their investigations using concepts, topic threads or date range. Messages and their attachments can be immediately examined in their native format and tagged with a single mouse click.
  • Intelligent Concept Folders: Stratify's unique technology automatically creates intelligent concept folders specific to a case or matter based on the content of the document universe. Stratify organizes these concepts hierarchically based on their interrelationships and then automatically sorts the documents into relevant concept folders to provide unparalleled insight based on what the documents are actually about rather than the keywords contained within them. At all times attorneys can take advantage of Stratify's comprehensive full-text search capability to further narrow the universe of documents under review.
  • Superior Search & Filtering Capabilities: Using smart technology to bypass irrelevant or duplicate document processing is the first and most important step to control the cost of discovery. In addition to automatically sorting documents into applicable concept folders, Stratify's powerful filtering technology enables attorneys to filter and review information by custodian (individual), providing them immediate access to all of a custodian's documents organized by concept.
  • Contextual Review & Redaction: Stratify enables reviewers to examine documents together with all contextually relevant information, such as attachments, duplicates and conceptually similar documents. Stratify automatically identifies exact content as well as near-duplicate documents, which are directly available to reviewers. Documents can be reviewed and tagged individually, en masse or as a "message unit" for added efficiency. With Stratify's fully integrated redaction capability, attorneys can also redact individual words or document areas on any document, as well as search for and redact specific words or phrases across an entire document without any special software or services.
  • Tasks Assignment and Case Management: Successful litigation often involves teamwork, with attorneys in multiple locations working on a case. Stratify makes it easy for team leaders to assign tasks (concept folders or documents) to specific reviewers and provides attorneys and litigation managers with a suite of reports to help track reviewer progress, productivity and manage reviewer workflow. Additionally, at any time during review and analysis documents can be assigned to Work Folders for subsequent litigation activities such as interrogatories, depositions and trial exhibits. Stratify enables the local downloading and printing of documents, either individually or by batch, exports directly to 3rd party case management or analysis tools, as well as the production of Bates-numbered documents.

Only a handful of companies offer true full-service electronic discovery services in what is expected to become a $1.9 billion industry by 2006. To varying degrees these services help companies and their lawyers search, review and analyze critical documents. However, only one offers intelligent technology built to think and work the way attorneys do. No other service features the ability to visually analyze patterns and relationships using an intuitive user interface that is easy to learn and efficient to use, together with the flexibility to search, sort, analyze and manage all aspects of discovery.

The Stratify Legal Discovery service is Unicode compatible, and currently supports documents in all Indo-European languages as well as Arabic and Japanese. It requires no software installation and features 24/7 technical support. The Stratify Legal Discovery service costs are primarily based on the size of the reviewable data, not raw data.
