Endeca and Stratify Partner

to Help Organizations Extract Maximum Value From
Unstructured Data

Combined Solution Delivers Superior Search, Navigation and Categorization Across Structured and Unstructured Enterprise Data

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. and Mountain View, Calif. — March 9, 2004— Endeca, the only provider of advanced search and Guided NavigationSM solutions, and Stratify, a leader in unstructured data management software, today announced a reseller agreement to provide comprehensive enterprise search, navigation and categorization solutions to new and existing customers. According to the terms of the deal, Endeca will complement its own robust capabilities for searching and navigating structured and unstructured content with Stratify's leading categorization and taxonomy management solution.

“Context is critical to enterprise information management and retrieval,“ said Jim Baum, president and COO of Endeca. “Stratify's innovative, proven categorization and taxonomy management solutions help organizations gain access to all relevant information, extracting key data and creating the structure necessary to put all enterprise information in context.”

Endeca, through its award-winning enterprise search platform, Endeca ProFind™, helps organizations effectively manage enterprise data through next-generation search capabilities, as well as advanced techniques that create structure in “unstructured” documents. As a result of the partnership, Endeca will augment this approach, taking advantage of the taxonomy and categorization capabilities of the Stratify Discovery System™ to extract maximum value from unstructured information. Endeca is uniquely able to take advantage of this newly created structure through Guided Navigation — an approach that dynamically presents users with ways to refine search results and discover related information.

New capabilities that Endeca will offer customers based on the Stratify Discovery System will include:

  • Categorization using multiple techniques (including statistical, Boolean, keyword and source rule categorizers) that operate in parallel to provide the most accurate document categorization
  • Automatic taxonomy creation using documents from any combination of corporate repositories and/or Internet sources to produce a single consistent view of information important to a business. Homegrown and industry standard taxonomies can also be imported directly
  • The Stratify Taxonomy Manager, an integrated interface for managing all stages of the taxonomy lifecycle, including creating, defining, testing, publishing and refining taxonomies and document classifications, using a combination of automated techniques, reporting and human review at every stage
  • Automatic taxonomy refinement and optimization enabling editors to ensure that their taxonomies remain relevant to changing business conditions

“Offering next-generation search capabilities coupled with Guided Navigation, Endeca gives organizations the ability to realize the full value of their intellectual capital,” said Ramana Venkata, CEO of Stratify. “By combining Stratify's leading categorization and taxonomy management solution and expertise with Endeca's ProFind and InFront products, customers can now deploy a complementary solution to manage all enterprise data, regardless of source, format or structure.”

Endeca will integrate and resell Stratify Discovery System 3.0, Stratify's industry-leading unstructured data management solution, to enable Endeca customers to seamlessly manage the taxonomies that will structure Endeca's Guided Navigation while ensuring that documents are accurately organized for efficient retrieval.

“By partnering with Stratify we can offer customers a highly compelling and comprehensive solution to boost operational efficiencies, improve employee productivity, increase sales and deliver superior service,” added Jim Baum.

Endeca ProFind features Guided Navigation for the enterprise, and is uniquely able to handle both structured and unstructured information for easier access to all types of enterprise data and documents residing across a wide variety of repositories. ProFind applications solve a variety of business and information overload problems by enabling knowledge workers, vendors and customers to access information using Endeca's advanced search, Guided Navigation and content spotlighting functionality. ProFind is also a unique and powerful complement to rich content applications like CRM, HRM, and PLM, and has already attracted leading companies such as Cabot Corporation, Old Mutual, Putnam Investments, Wall Street Source, Weatherford and World Book.
